WELCOME
Barbson Breeding Paradise is a family owned and operated business. We are specialised in raising healthy AKC registered Great Dane Puppies. The Great Dane, also known as Apollo Dog, Deutsch Dogge, or German Mastiff, is an imposingly large breed with no clear place of origin, as many records about the breed are found in various parts of the world. The Great Dane’s massive size makes them one of the tallest dog breeds. They are bred to hunt wild boars, and today, they are categorised as one of the working breeds. Because of their physicality, the Great Dane is an intimidating figure that instantly offers protection as a deterrent for people with bad intentions.Despite their bug nature, Great Danes are a lovely dog breed . They perfectly get along with kids and other small animals. In fact, Great Danes are excellent family companion dogs despite their size. The giant Great Dane has low exercise needs. About 30 minutes of exercise and mental stimulation is enough to tire him out. When grooming, the Great Dane’s coat requires extra attention since he is a moderate shedder. Keeping the Great Dane’s coat clean and healthy requires regular brushing. We have been raising this lovely dog breed for more than 10 years and we understand so much about the breed. To some people, it may be their first time of owning the breed while others will like to increase their knowledge on this dog breed. Scroll down to learn more about Great Danes.
ABOUT GREAT DANES
The Great Dane is also referred to as the Apollo of Dogs because of the elegance and grace they exude. The Great Dane was primarily bred to be a hunting dog.Their origin are shrouded in mystery as multiple records suggest that the dog breed is found in various parts of the world. The Great Dane was depicted in artefacts of both Egypt and Babylon, on frescoes in ancient Greece in the 14th to 13th centuries B.C., in Chinese literature found in Tibet in 1121 B.C., on runestones in Scandinavia, and coinage in Denmark from the fifth century A.D.The Great Dane dog is even said to be companions of Assyrians. They were then traded to Greeks and Romans and bred with other dog breeds. Parent breeds of the dog are believed to be the Irish Greyhound, Irish Wolfhound, and ancestors of the English Mastiff.Regardless of the Great Dane’s origins, they are believed to have descended from the English Mastiff and the Irish Wolfhound. This breed of dog was originally referred to as the boar hound, as they were developed to hunt boars. However, their name was changed to ‘English Dogge’ in the 16th century and then to ‘Chamber Dog’ in the late 1600s to protect sleeping princes from cut-throats.
The Great Dane dog breed was also bred in Germany, gracing the courts of the nobility in the 17th century. In the 19th century, an attempt was made to change their name to ‘German Dogge’ and ‘German Mastiff’, but due to tensions in Germany, the name did not come through. The Great Dane was further developed by wealthy German breeders in the late 19th century. The breed is known as German Mastiff or Deutsch Dogge in Germany. The breeders were focused on turning the Dane’s aggressive temperament into a gentle one. That’s because they were primarily bred as a hunting dog; thus they are often ferocious and intimidating. Thanks to these breeder’s efforts, the Great Dane breed is now a sweet-natured and loving family companion. In the end, it was Comte de Buffon who successfully named the breed to ‘Great Dane’ (as we know today) when he travelled to Denmark and saw dogs resembling the boarhound. The comte came up with the name because he thought the changes in the dog’s appearance are due to the Danish weather. Most people assume that the Great Dane originated in Denmark because of their name, but their long, albeit dubious, history suggests otherwise.
The Great Dane was recognised as a breed by the American Kennel Club (AKC) in 1887. Today, the Great Dane is a popular choice as a family companion due to their loyal and friendly nature, apart from their stunning looks. They have a long life span of about 8 to 10 years
OUR STORY
Thanks for visiting our website. I am called Craig Barbson . The Barbson’s family are the owners of Barbson Breeding Paradise. My wife and I are pet lovers so we took up the initiative to breed these lovely dog breed to satisfy the needs of families who will want to own or add a new member to their family. My knowledge about the Great Danes has grown as the years go by as they are a dog breed that are very smart and make us to learn new things everyday. My history with owning a puppy goes right back to my Christmas holidays when I was 10 years old. My parents bought me a lovely Grate Dane puppy which I named Liam. Liam gave me a lot of childhood memories when I was growing as a teen. He was more than a best friend to me. He was so lovely and friendly. Each time I got angry back then about something, Liam was always there to console me and make me smile again. We were almost of the same size so he meant everything to me. I always thought he could talk as he understood me so much. I always speak to him at times hoping he will respond. Everywhere I went to, Liam was with me. I met my wife in college. We were very good friends back then. She loved Liam until she insisted her parents should get her a Grate Dane. At first her parents refused due to the big nature of the breed thinking it will be harmful to her. One day she insisted on me bringing Liam to her home which I did. Her parents saw her she played and got along with Liam. They became convinced and also got her a Great Dane. That was how our love for this lovely dog breed grew up. Our dogs use to play together. Unfortunately in our later years at college, I lost my lovely dog Liam. We grew up loving each other so much and loving this dog breed. Later on, we got married and with our love for Great Danes, we decided to breed and raise this dog breed and why not educate puppy lovers about the importance of owning a Great Dane puppy since many people are scared of them due to their big nature. Fast forward to today, we breed this lovely dog breed in our 3 acres of land beside a river where our puppies have enough space to play around. My family and I are dedicated to help everyone own the perfect, healthy puppy for their home. With our knowledge of this dog breed from childhood, we will say Alluring Danes are the best dogs to own. We spend our time in training these puppies and making sure we help families own the most intelligent of this dog breed.
